We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in a hybrid role. This position requires onsite presence two days a week, including mandatory attendance on Wednesdays. Please note that remote-only options are not available. Local candidates are preferred, but we are open to candidates willing to relocate at their own expense and adhere to the hybrid schedule.
The interview process will be conducted via MS Teams, with the possibility of a second-round in-person interview.
This is not a short-term contract position, and while we are open to maintaining the selected candidate as a contractor, our preference is to transition them into a full-time employee role. However, if the candidate prefers to remain a contractor, we are willing to accommodate that as well.
The candidate must have experience working in formal change control environments and should possess strong troubleshooting skills. This position is expected to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with two onsite days. There is a rotation for on-call support from Saturday morning to Monday morning, and after an initial learning period, this position may be required to assist. Overtime and weekend work is rare and must be scheduled and approved in advance for project-related tasks.
Our environment currently includes both Sybase and SQL Server databases. We are in the process of transitioning from Sybase to a pure SQL Server environment over the next three years. The Sybase environment is 15.7 running on Solaris in an X86 hardware setup within our local network. The SQL Server environment includes mixed versions of SQL Server on different versions of Windows Server, with a project underway to standardize and upgrade versions. This environment includes servers both in our local network and in Azure.
The primary focus of this position is to assist with Sybase 15.7, so the candidate should have a background in Unix, including experience with developing and running CRON jobs from the command line. Familiarity with Sybase ASE 15.7 at a junior DBA level is essential, as the role will involve supporting senior DBAs during after-hours implementations and performing tasks such as weekly data fixes.
Additionally, the candidate will help alleviate workload from the SQL Server DBAs. Experience with Windows Servers, SQL Server, clusters, and Disaster Recovery processes in development, test, and production environments is required. Experience with migrating from Sybase to SQL Server is highly desired.
