Your Role:
As the Lab Manager, you will be the linchpin of lab operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Your role will encompass:
- Operational Excellence: Oversee lab operations, including maintenance, safety training, and adherence to safety and chemical hygiene standards.
- Leadership & Supervision: Manage lab staff, train new employees, and create a supportive environment that promotes safety and efficiency.
- Collaboration: Work closely with external vendors and internal teams to ensure all lab-related needs are met and anticipate any issues that arise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supply Management: Order and maintain essential lab supplies and equipment, ensuring everything is in top condition for lab operations.
- Policy Development: Plan and implement policies, procedures, and standards for efficient lab operations.
- Equipment Oversight: Manage calibration, maintenance, and upgrades of lab equipment.
- Facility Coordination: Plan and execute large-scale facility changes, such as lab reorganizations and expansions.
- Problem Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve any lab-related issues, including off-hours emergencies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Facilities, Operations, Engineering, and Procurement teams to optimize lab functionality.
What You'll Need:
- Education & Experience: BS or MS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field with 5+ years in an industrial biotech setting and 3+ years in a supervisory role.
- Technical Skills: Extensive wet lab experience, knowledge of standard lab equipment, and understanding of microbiology and sterile techniques.
- Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with EH&S regulations, laboratory safety, and waste disposal methods.
- Management Experience: Proven ability to manage lab operations and personnel, with experience in Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and ISO 17025.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Adaptability: Experience in a high-throughput manufacturing environment and flexibility to adjust to changing work conditions.
- Team Skills: Strong management, communication, and coordination abilities, with a keen sense of responsibility and cost awareness.
