Job Summary
This role will support our PL product & pricing data needs working closely with product, pricing and R&D. It is responsible for acquiring, curating, and publishing data both on prem and in the cloud for analytical or operational uses for complex scenarios. Ensures the data is in a ready-to-use form that creates a single version of the truth across all data consumers, including business/technology users, reporting and visualization specialists and data scientists. Utilizes skills to translate business analytic requests/requirements into design, development, testing, deployment, and production maintenance tasks. Functions as an expert with various technologies from big data, relational and non-relational databases, cloud environments, different programming languages and various reporting tools. This person should also have experience in Machine Learning Operations including model deployment and monitoring and be prepared to lead a team of up to 8 data engineers. Performs coaching as needed for less experienced data engineers.

What You'll Do
Consults independently, works iteratively, and is viewed as an expert on data projects of a complex nature to understand design requirement and existing business processes to lead in the design, development, and implementation of data products in partnership with data/decision scientists. Practices code management and integration with current architectural, data governance, and development guidelines. Produces complex data building blocks, data models, and data flows working with data/decision scientists within personal lines and distribution domains requests such as dimensional data, standard and ad hoc reporting, data feeds, dashboard reporting, model ready data sets, and data science research & exploration and is seen as an expert in this space. Provides coaching and assistance to all staff members. Functions as an expert in serving as a SME for appropriate data sources and for how best to operationalize solutions working closely with data/decision scientists. Utilizes techniques such as mapping data to a common data model, natural language processing, transforming data as necessary to satisfy business rules, AI, statistical computations, and validation of data content. Translates data/decision science business data stories into a technical story breakdown structure and work estimates for a schedule or planned agile sprint.

Projects are complex and require interaction across multiple dependencies. Considered an expert in developing complex scalable data pipelines for both streaming and batch requirements and builds out new API integrations to support increased demands of data volume and complexity. Acts as the translation layer for and conduit to Technology for all aspects of the work. Works closely with IT to create "code as requirements" that can be operationalized for production purposes. Preps/cleanses data to optimize for downstream reporting via Farmers standard visualization or AI/ML tools with minimal assistance and consistently provides assistance to new staff members. Designs and manages highly complex projects while handling multiple complex cross-functional projects. Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Qualification
Possesses strong technical aptitude. Hands-on experience with multiple cloud platforms including AWS, Google, and Azure. Detailed experience with the services offered by major cloud providers (for example Lambda, SNS, managing users with Terraform, Sagemaker). Advanced familiarity and understanding of cloud computing environments. Strong verbal communication and listening skills. Extensive experience interacting with executive and senior leadership stakeholders around the topics of data access, quality, appropriate use, metric definitions and standardization. Effectively coaches and delivers constructive feedback. Practical knowledge of DBT, PowerBI, Python, and GitHub.
