The RN in the Surgery Department provides nursing care for patients having surgical procedures performed as inpatients and outpatients. Care is given to patients with general, spinal, epidural, regional, IV and local anesthesia. Nursing care is provided pre-operatively, intra-operatively in the surgical suites, and post-operatively in the post anesthesia recovery area. Infection prevention practices are strictly followed. AORN and ASPAN standards are followed. The RN always serves as the patient advocate regarding care, safety, and privacy.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned. Is expected to work varying hours and take holiday and weekend call.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- BSN preferred but not required
License / Certification / Registration
- Current Kansas RN license or ability to obtain licensure after graduation, per Kansas State Board of Nursing regulations.
- BLS - Obtains RQI BLS certification within appropriate quarter (approximately within 3 months of hire), maintains quarterly RQI requirements.
- ALS- Obtains RQI ALS certification within appropriate quarter (approximately within 6 months of hire), maintains quarterly RQI requirements.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)- Course completion with current card highly recommended, but not required
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room)- Certification preferred, but not required.
Experience
- One year experience as an RN preferred, but not required.
- Previous surgery experience preferred, but not required.
- Computer experience preferred, or ability to learn computer operation.
