This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Medical Occupations to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is a Nurse (Occupational Health) GS-610-11/12 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Fort Worth District, Safety & Occupational Health Office located in Fort Worth, TX.

Duties
- Coordinates medical support services as related to all Occupational Health Program requirements.
- Coordinates and reviews each completed exam, lab, and special test provided by in-house Occupational Health Physician and prepares a written determination to employee and supervisor.
- Interviews employees and consults with health care providers, safety, industrial hygiene, supervisors, and local HR POC to assist with return to duty assessments.
- Performs job-related medical surveillance, health education and health promotion.
- Identifies occupational injury/illness trends; provides analyses and recommends remedial courses of action to include industrial hygiene (IH) surveys.
- Ensures proper initiation, maintenance, and disposition of employee medical records.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must receive and maintain current certification by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) within 18 months of employment.
- Must receive and maintain current certification by a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved training program in spirometry techniques within 18 months of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a CPR Certificate within one year of employment.
- Must have or be able to obtain CPR teaching certificate within one year of employment.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is, therefore, subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires pre-employment and random drug testing.
- The duties of this position require occasional temporary duty (TDY) travel.
- Must possess be able to obtain and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain clinical titer testing or proof of immunity for Rubella, Rubeola, and Hepatitis B within three months of employment.

Basic Requirement For Nurse (Occupational Health)
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes 1) Providing occupational health training and education; 2) Reviewing completed examinations, labs, and tests; OR 3) Interpreting Occupational Safety and Health Regulations. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
OR
Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet one of the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing program
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education from a professional nursing program
Gs-12
Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes 1) Performing on-site medical screening of personnel; 2) Providing medical support services as related to an Occupational Health program; AND 3) Maintaining employee medical records. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job (GS-12), you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
