About the Role:
Payroll Specialist
Payroll Specialists, or Payroll Administrators, are administrative professionals responsible for maintaining payroll systems and processing paychecks according to schedule and in the correct amount. Their duties include consolidating timesheet information and entering data into payroll databases, calculating paycheck amounts and distributing funds to employee accounts.
Responsibilities:
- Checking timesheets for accuracy
- Entering data into databases and spreadsheets
- Handling direct deposit requests and data
- Processing paper checks for distribution
- Acquiring all necessary signatures to distribute payroll
- Process unemployment paperwork and insurance for terminated employees.
- Processing wage garnishments
- Making adjustments in pay for raises, bonuses and commission
- Handle 401(k) filings and administration.
- File multiple worksite reports, 1099s, EEOC, etc.
Qualifications:
- A high school degree, GED (General Educational Development) certification, or equivalency is required.
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or a related field is preferred.
- Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, compensation, and benefits, labor relations, and negotiation.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and related functions. Basic programming skills.
- Approach others in a tactful and respectful manner, and display sound and accurate judgment.
- Keep commitments, work with integrity, and uphold organizational values.
Required Skills:
- Payroll processing experience
- Knowledge of payroll systems and regulations
- Strong attention to detail
Preferred Skills:
- Previous HR experience
- Experience with benefits administration
