Recommendations and Development for GIS in Business Analytics - Remote (must live in commutable distance to DC)
Objective: The National Gallery’s business analytics requirements increasingly call for the use of GIS functions that appear limited within the enterprise implementation of Power BI. This project involves both exploratory work to determine the best approach and the development of a functional prototype.
Accordingly, the National Gallery seeks support for developing and implementing recommendations for GIS capabilities within or complementary to the Microsoft Synapse Architecture currently in place, and for developing a defined analytic product that applies these GIS capabilities.
Scope
Exploratory Work and Recommendations:
The project will begin with exploratory work to identify a GIS platform that is best suited for the National Gallery’s technology stack and specific use cases. Recommendations should be cost neutral where possible, with a preference toward open source coding solutions such as QGIS or python.
Clear Vision For End Product
The end goal is to produce a functional prototype that includes:
- Visualization of multiple data layers.
- Calculation of distances for loan cost estimations and carbon impact.
- Specific data visualizations for U.S. census data by zip code and AAMD data for museum locations.
- Capabilities for adding additional data layers and sharing visualizations with internal users.
Product Requirements
Product development will iterate on an initial product developed in Tableau, with a preference to rebuild in Power BI or recommended tool, focused on building map layers for information including addressable markets and audiences (e.g., census data), accredited museums (e.g., AAMD data), loans and services provided by the National Gallery (data from the National Gallery data lake), onsite and online visits to the National Gallery (data from the National Gallery data lake), and other data such as weather, tourism, etc.
Product features should permit visualization of data layers, as well as calculation of relevant geographies based on formulaic criteria from data layers, and other calculations such as distances for loan cost estimations in dollars and carbon impact. The National Gallery is licensed with Power BI Premium
