Summary:
Our client, based in South Denver, is searching for a Database Administrator to replace their retiring DBA. This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong self-starter who enjoys taking control of system upgrades, patches, and monitoring while working across multiple teams in a collaborative environment. The position offers flexibility, whether contract, contract-to-hire, or full-time direct. The ideal candidate will work on contract until 2025 so that budgeting will allow the organization to convert to full-time. But there could be an exception if the identified candidate will only accept a full time opportunity. This role focuses on production DBA tasks, including managing clusters and providing system monitoring. The DBA will work closely with Systems Support and a Senior Developer responsible for BI integration. The candidate will also play a critical role in the ongoing SQL Server upgrade to 2022, patching efforts, and an RBAC project. The role is available as on-site (preferred) or 100% remote for contract candidates. Salary range is $120K-$125K, plus a 10% bonus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production DBA Focus: Manage SQL Server 2017, 2019, and 2022 environments, with active participation in the SQL Server 2022 upgrade and patching project.
- Cluster & Security Management: Manage database clusters and enforce security best practices.
- RBAC Project Involvement: Contribute to the RBAC project, ensuring the organization moves towards NIST compliance.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Systems Support and the Senior Developer for BI integration.
- Self-Starter: Ability to take direction and independently execute tasks, spanning system upgrades, performance monitoring, and process improvements.
- System Monitoring: Oversee backups and system monitoring, including release support and performance guidance.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in on-call rotation with after-hours/weekend work.
- Install, configure, patch, manage, and troubleshoot SQL Server versions 2017, 2019, 2022.
- Manage data processes including updates, analysis, query optimization, and code modifications.
- Support database structures and source code deployment from Team Foundation Server (TFS).
- Submit and present changes to the Change Control Board.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Rubrik Experience: Familiarity with Rubrik backup software (not in use yet but a plus).
- Tidal Experience: Experience with Tidal for job orchestration.
- SSIS: Experience with SSIS, particularly supporting deployments.
- C# Development Experience: Any experience with C# development is beneficial.
Technical Skills Required:
- Expertise in SQL Server 2017, 2019, and 2022.
- Experience with cluster management, security protocols, backups, restores, replication, indexing, and query optimization.
- Familiarity with .NET framework, C#, VB.Net, and Tidal job orchestration.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- 7 10 years of recent MS SQL Server DBA experience in a medium-sized enterprise.
- Experience managing production DBA issues independently.
- Strong ownership of upgrades, patches, backups, and system monitoring.
