Position Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced SharePoint Migration Specialist to assist in migrating a large volume of data (4TB) from on-premises file shares to SharePoint and Teams. This individual will play a critical role in planning, data safekeeping, managing synchronization processes, and ensuring a smooth user adoption of the new SharePoint environment. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of migration strategies, tools, and best practices, including NTFS permissions, version history management, and possible customization needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, execute, and manage the migration of data from legacy on-premises file shares to SharePoint/Teams.
- Ensure data integrity, safekeeping, and synchronization throughout the migration process.
- Work closely with business owners to understand folder structures and assign appropriate permissions.
- Troubleshoot and address NTFS permissions and metadata requirements as needed.
- Provide guidance on using ShareGate or Microsoft’s inherent tools for the migration process.
- Offer expertise on customized workflows, forms, or SharePoint apps if required by the business.
- Manage complex migrations, including files with version history and extensive folder permissions.
- Validate data post-migration to ensure successful adoption and locking of legacy file shares.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience with large-scale SharePoint migrations (4TB+).
- Expertise with SharePoint migration tools such as ShareGate and Microsoft’s built-in migration utilities.
- Strong understanding of NTFS permissions, metadata management, and file versioning.
- Experience with workflow and form customization within SharePoint.
- Ability to manage synchronization tasks and support data validation processes.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and experience with permission structures.
- Familiarity with SharePoint Online, Teams, and Office 365 ecosystem.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience migrating data with complex folder structures and user permissions.
- Prior experience in consulting on SharePoint best practices and guiding user adoption.
- Experience working with Microsoft 365 security and compliance features during data migration.
