The eCommerce Technology Manager manages a team of developers and testers that develop and maintain multiple e-Commerce websites and applications across multiple platforms. This manager ensures requests made from Marketing and the business are properly prioritized and implemented in an efficient and performing way that promotes the core business objectives. This role requires a deep understanding of e-commerce systems, strong project management skills, and the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Liaise and work very closely with Marketing to ensure their eCommerce business objectives are met, work is prioritized, their web-related team members can do appropriate work on websites, and foster open and direct communication between Marketing and Development.
- Proactively develop and execute a technology strategy that aligns with business goals. Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations for enhancements and improvements.
- Act as the primary point of contact for e-commerce technology-related matters. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to align technology initiatives with business objectives.
- Gather business requirements from stakeholders and translate into design documents for development and QA teams.
- Monitor and analyze site performance metrics. Implement improvements to enhance user experience, site speed, and overall functionality. Create and implement processes and procedures for integrating sites with backend systems, notification schemes, third-party APIs, webhooks, cloud-hosting platforms, etc.
- Identify and implement eCommerce development best practices around programming, CMS, GA, GTM, GSC, scripting, upgrading, and performance monitoring.
- Foster clean, reusable, scalable and semantically coherent code.
- Ensure websites continue operating in an optimized, performant and ranking manner.
- Manage upgrades, troubleshooting, and integrations with third-party vendors and systems.
- Incorporate technical and non-technical considerations into all developments including usability, target-audience(s), project feasibility and product performance, site speed and accessibility, privacy and security.
Qualifications
- 5+ years directly managing an eCommerce development team.
- Bachelor’s degree (in Computer Science Management Information System, or related field) or a minimum of 10+ years’ experience working in the field.
- Experience with multiple eCommerce CMS platforms. For example, WordPress, Magento/Adobe, BigCommerce.
- Experience with cross-browser and cross-device compatibility issues and ways to resolve them
- Experience with mobile-first development.
- Extensive knowledge of PHP, JavaScript/jQuery, HTML, CSS, Schema markup.
- Experience integrating websites with GTM, GA4, GSC.
- Experience with CMS themes, templates, and plugins/extensions/apps.
- Experience with responsive and adaptive design principles.
- Experience with unit, QA, UAT testing methodologies and best practices.
- Experience with AWS, Azure or other cloud platforms.
- Experience with performance monitoring and implementing page speed optimization.
- An understanding of SEO and how it impacts ranking.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
