Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain comprehensive databases for public health data.
- Collaborate with public health GIS analysts, coordinators, epidemiologists, and other experts to implement efficient database systems.
- Monitor database performance and suggest enhancements to improve efficiency.
- Analyze existing database architecture with a focus on scalability, security, and compliance with best practices.
- Develop an actionable implementation plan for advanced data analytics capabilities.
- Define requirements for data collection and analysis tools to extract valuable insights.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses in the current database architecture.
- Ensure data integrity and compliance with relevant regulations and privacy standards.
- Create automated validation scripts for error detection and correction.
- Manage project timelines and document the software development lifecycle.
- Work independently while fostering collaboration across teams.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience with database systems like MySQL or PostgreSQL for effective data storage and retrieval.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases and advanced SQL querying techniques.
- Proficiency in designing normalized database schemas and effective indexing strategies.
- Familiarity with database migration tools, such as Alembic, for schema updates.
- Knowledge of public health data and privacy requirements, including HIPAA and PII.
Qualifications
- A minimum of seven years of experience in database administration.
- A Public Trust clearance with the U.S. federal government or the ability to obtain one.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, GIS, or a related field is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
