Our primary focus areas are non-invasive physiological monitoring, wearable and non-contact sensors, advanced signal processing, diagnostics, decision support and wearable non-invasive electrical stimulation devices. The company has a unique opportunity for a creative, self-motivated and enthusiastic Principal Investigator (PI) to spearhead the integration of artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) with Vivonics’ technology base by leading proposal efforts and providing technical direction for government-funded medical device product development efforts at all stages of the lifecycle from initial feasibility demonstrations to final product design.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Scientist is responsible for innovation, technical business development, and technical leadership for non-invasive medical monitoring, analysis and decision support applications. This position is responsible for developing creative solutions to significant unmet medical needs that align with Vivonics’ focus area, developing government proposals to fund technology development and providing technical leadership to funded projects. The Scientist will work to build their own research pipeline while also supporting ongoing development programs.
Specific duties will include:
- Integrate AI/ML development with Vivonics’ current capabilities and technologies.
- Work with the Business Development (BD) team to identify important unmet medical needs that address a significant potential market and can be addressed by technology in the Vivonics focus area, with the primary emphasis on AL/ML capabilities.
- Develop concepts for innovative new AI/ML technology solutions to challenging problems that are candidates for government funding to pursue development.
- Create development approach for new technologies, including proof of concept and validation study design.
- Author core sections of proposals for government funding that describe the vision for the innovative technology, explain how the technology addresses an unmet need and establishes the technical foundation.
- Provide technical leadership to project teams to ensure that development efforts address the underlying user needs and technology gaps.
- Communicate with sponsors, collaborators, potential customers and Vivonics management.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and 2-5 years of post-doctorate and relevant proposal writing experience
- Strong background and interest in embedded artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) for decision support required
- Familiarity with AI/ML algorithms/models development with respect to physiological monitoring signals and parameters
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including experience in formulating and writing technical proposals
- Strong analytical skills and ability to conceive and reduce to practice innovative medical technology product concepts
- Proven track record in obtaining and performing on government grants and contracts
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Interest and ability in developing collaborator and customer relationships
- Working knowledge of human physiology
- Familiarity with digital signal and image processing
- Understanding of problems in military medicine
- Familiarity with design of clinical and pre-clinical studies
- Ability to work in a team environment, provide mentorship, and learn new skills quickly
