Reports to: Senior Director, VBC Products

- We partner with customers to deliver advanced analytics solutions that optimize value-based care performance tied to value-based contracts.
- We identify areas of non- or underperformance and where dollars are at risk and where upside opportunities can be leveraged.
- Our solutions provide data insights for key stakeholders to have visibility into cost and quality drivers, with the goal of enabling providers and payors to align on patient/member gaps in care.

Essential Job Functions
- Gather, analyze, and model client data (customers, financials, operational, organizational, access channel), key performance indicators, and market data (competitors, products, suppliers), using a broad set of analytical tools and techniques to develop quantitative and qualitative business insights and improve decision-making.
- Adapt existing methods and procedures to create possible alternative solutions to moderately complex problems
- Approach problems in a systematic way with the ability to work collaboratively with other team members
- Manage small teams and work efforts with clients and/or within Gray Matter Analytics
- Identify and synthesize new use cases for clients to use their data and data science methods to create a competitive advantage
- Produce detailed project documentation and contribute to the consulting knowledge base
- Produce and deliver presentations on project findings and results that are suitable for a variety of technical audiences from peer data scientists to business executives with limited analytical skills
- Research and remain up to date on emerging machine learning methods, algorithms, tools and use cases, and seek to apply them to clients' benefit
Qualifications & Desired Skills
- Minimum of seven years of experience of designing and building data science applications in a real-world business context, including classification, prediction, clustering and segmentation, market basket analysis, text mining and topic modeling, recommendation engines and many others
- Advanced degree preferred (e.g. MBA, MHA, MPH)
- An advanced STEM degree (PhD or MS) is a plus
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or Finance required
- Hands-on experience with statistical and data mining software packages (e.g. Python - SciPy, NumPy, Pandas, SciKit-Learn, R, Alteryx, SPSS, SAS, etc.)
- Knowledge of a variety of statistical modeling and machine learning algorithms as well as their practical application
- Experience or exposure to optimization methods, linear programming and other forms of mathematical modeling is a plus
- Experience deploying predictive models into closed-loop or automated business with process or in a real-time context is a plus
- Exposure to a variety of machine learning frameworks and distributed computing architectures (e.g. Spark, Hadoop)
- Experience in applying design thinking and methods for data science is a plus
- Ability to bring clarity to ambiguous situations and explain abstract concepts to all levels of stakeholders
