Summary/Objectives
The Banking Group Senior Portfolio Officer (BGSPO) position manages a team of Commercial Portfolio Manager Team Leads grouped geographically within the Bank’s footprint. The BGSPO responsibilities include promoting quality commercial loan underwriting and quality commercial loan portfolio management. In addition to management and leadership within the assigned Banking Group, the BGSPO will hold delegated loan authority that can be used to approve Annual Servicing and Renewals within designated geographies to help support the local Commercial Credit Officers and to help coach assigned PMs on credit fundamentals. In addition to direct management responsibilities and approval responsibilities, the BGSPO role will lead and execute key process improvement initiatives within Credit Administration focused on sound portfolio management (covenant and annual servicing process improvement, procedures creation/updating, guidance documents for portfolio managers, nCino project work etc.). The BGSPO must be well-versed in sound lending principles, the Bank’s loan policy, and current Federal and state laws and regulations and is expected to proactively identify and communicate ideas for improving the credit administration process. Finally, the BGSPO acts as a commercial lending and credit mentor, coach, and liaison to teammates across the organization.
Essential Functions
This position is expected to perform the duties, tasks, and responsibilities as outlined below:
- Manages and leads team of Portfolio Manager Team Leads. These responsibilities include training, coaching and development of Commercial PMTLS and PMs;
- Lead project management efforts for Credit Administration process improvement focused on underwriting and portfolio management;
- Read, analyze and synthesize large amounts of information (e.g., spreads, credit memorandums, financial statements, audits, loan documents, leases, appraisal and environmental reports, etc.) in order to adequately decision Annual Servicing and Renewal Loan Packages as well as coach PMTLs and PMs on credit fundamentals;
- Ensure risk ratings are appropriately assigned during the loan/renewal/annual servicing approval process;
- Drive strict compliance with the Bank’s policies and procedures, code of conduct, and regulatory guidelines;
- Ensures assigned geographic area maintain accurate credit files;
- Know and stay abreast of economic conditions;
- Follow strict confidentially procedures;
- Assistance other employees by liaising with them through healthy and positive interactions;
- Drive the Bank’s Culture within the Portfolio Management Team;
- Continuously update skills through Bank and third-party training; and
- All other tasks, responsibilities, or duties, as directed by management.

Qualifications, Education, And Certification Requirements
- Education: Requires Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, economics, finance or a related field; Graduation from a recognized school of banking and/or business-related graduate degrees are a plus.
- Experience: Prior commercial lending, underwriting, and credit approval is required. Minimum of ten years of experience in commercial banking, business banking and/or portfolio management. Competent to decision deals of advanced complexity, typically arising from a local market area. Prior management experience (3+ years) required.
- Certifications/Specific Knowledge: Knowledge of accounting, finance, and lending principles. In-depth knowledge of Federal and State lending regulations and Bank policies related to lending procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- This position may require a large amount of time at a computer. This can be done sitting or standing with use of the right desk.
