Tennessee Wesleyan University invites qualified candidates to apply for the Graphic Designer position within the University's Marketing and Communications Department, reporting to the Vice President for Marketing and Communications.
The graphic designer provides overall artistic direction to lead the University’s visual communication efforts. The ideal candidate, a creative problem-solver, will offer strategic graphic design solutions for various print and digital collateral aimed at attracting traditional and non-traditional students, as well as promoting the University’s overall brand. Responsibilities include maintaining an identity and brand image for the University through print and electronic mediums, coordinating creative services offered through MarComm staff, and advising the campus community in relation to current design best practices.
Duties included, but not limited to:
- Design the family of recruitment marketing materials for the admissions team to use during the recruitment of both traditional and non-traditional students.
- Coordinates design and printing of various advancement and alumni projects (including correspondence for homecoming and other alumni and fundraising efforts/events/meetings).
- Responsible for the design and layout of external brochures, flyers, posters, and postcards.
- Identifies and curates relationships with area printers by requesting quotes, discussing proper printing techniques and paper selections, and ensuring invoices are submitted to the business office for payment.
- Utilize a project management system to track and manage project life-cycle.
- Assists with testing new design concepts to ensure work aligns with departmental needs and expectations.
- Reviews and updates brand standards manual to guide the entire University in use of University logos, colors, fonts, and other design principles.
- Creates digital ads for Google and Bing to raise brand awareness and drive traffic to the website.
- Assist in ordering promotional items to ensure visual brand consistency.
- Work closely with a variety of personality types and communicate effectively across varying levels of the organization.
- Assist with functions associated with the Office of Marketing and Communications.
- Other duties/responsibilities: Works with clients, printers and outside entities to negotiate costs, manage project timelines and address any technical or creative issues. Work with photographers, freelancers, and vendors in the development of marketing materials.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or related field.
- 2-3 years of professional design experience within an organization/team preferred.
- Experience with the entire Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), Microsoft Office Suite.
- Design experience creating marketing collateral for a variety of audiences – preference given to higher education experience.
- Working knowledge of printing process preferred.
- Knowledge of current and new technologies to assist in offering design and graphic direction as well as knowledge of procurement, copyright, trademark and other relevant business policies and procedures.
- Ability to work in a fast-pace environment with changing deadlines and priorities while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Outstanding organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to flex working hours in response to project demands.
