The Role
We are seeking a motivated and talented
Scientist for the Protein Sciences group within our innovative team. The primary responsibilities include the expression, purification, and characterization of recombinant proteins to advance internal discovery-stage research. This Scientist's contributions will catalyze the selection of therapeutic candidates and inform the processes used for later large-scale manufacturing.
This is a full time and onsite role, 5 days a week.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, optimize, and execute protein expression, purification, and characterization workflows.
- Collaborate with a highly cross-functional team by generating high-quality protein materials to support internal chemistry and cell biology research functions, developing high-throughput assays with our automation team, and testing how the latest advances in our platform technologies impact production, quality, and functionality of our therapeutic candidates.
- Perform biophysical and biochemical characterization of proteins, including but not limited to, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, HPLC, enzymatic activity assays, target-binding assays, and mass spectrometry.
- Mentor 1-2 Research Associates, ensuring they understand the scientific foundations of the research, are executing and recording the details of their work according to best practices, and feel supported in their own career trajectories.
- Keep meticulous documentation of experimental procedures and results, ensuring traceability and reproducibility.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in biochemistry and related technologies, implementing new protein expression, purification, and characterization techniques.
- Prepare data summaries, reports, and presentations to communicate findings with internal teams and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field with 0-4 years of industry experience in protein expression, purification, and characterization.
- Strong understanding of protein biochemistry and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize protein generation workflows.
- Hands-on experience with recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization techniques, including but not limited to affinity, ion exchange, size-exclusion, reverse-phase, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography, operation of FPLC and HPLC systems, SDS-PAGE, mass spectrometry, and enzyme activity assays.
- Experience in protein modeling, refolding, biophysical binding assays, or production for preclinical or drug discovery projects is highly desirable.
- Experience and interest in supervision and mentoring.
- Enthusiasm for and capability to independently troubleshoot and optimize biochemical challenges.
- Scientific curiosity, and the diligence and resilience to explore it thoroughly.
