The bookkeeper will be responsible for preparing and examining financial records for the EPA and handling administrative tasks such as answering phone calls and scheduling meetings. This includes managing calls from government agencies regarding financial matters or from individuals seeking to speak with the bookkeeper. The role involves maintaining and compiling financial data, verifying the accuracy of business transactions, and performing data entry tasks. Other duties will be assigned as needed.
The bookkeeper should be proficient in Microsoft Office and be able to create accurate Profit and Loss statements, balance sheets, and business templates. The candidate must be able to produce job cost reports, perform reconciliations, and maintain multiple project files. The position requires balancing the general ledger, preparing balance sheets, and transferring subsidiary accounts. The primary accounting software used is QuickBooks 2022 Non-Profit Premier Edition.
Additional responsibilities include tracking payments for bills, utilities, government revenue, and coordinating with the CPA, Jan Dyer, for budget reconciliation and debt management. The candidate will also use Microsoft Excel to compile financial reports, track expenditures, and present the reports to the executive council as needed.
The role involves managing financial aspects of various programs, including utility, rental, education, housing, and appliance services, as well as environmental programs.
This position involves working across two departments, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Administrative Department, which are located a short distance from each other. The candidate will spend most of their time in the Administrative Department, working closely with the Administrative Assistant, Office Assistant and Administrator.
Bookkeeper Qualifications:
Previous experience in accounting, finance, or record-keeping
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Certified Public Accounting (CPA) practices. Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and QuickBooks. Strong organizational and managerial skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and within a small team of dedicated employees
Bookkeeper Responsibilities Include:

Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
