The Modern Language Association’s office of bibliographic information services seeks an indexer to index, edit, and proofread materials on Slavic literature for the MLA International Bibliography.

Responsibilities

Indexes publications related to Slavic language and literature
Assists in maintaining records on periodical coverage and advises the editor of the Directory of Periodicals on Slavic literature and related periodicals
Advises the Thesaurus staff on issues related to these subject areas

Qualifications

Advanced degree in Russian literature (or other Slavic literature, but with strong reading knowledge of Russian)
Reading knowledge of Russian and at least one other Slavic or non-Slavic language of Eastern Europe
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail
Organizational acumen
Ability to work independently
Prior indexing or cataloging experience is a plus, but not required

This is a full-time, mainly remote position, with an in-person attendance requirement at one annual two-day meeting at the MLA's office in downtown Manhattan. You must be able to work legally in the United States. Salary in commensurate with experience, in the range of $52,000-$54,000. The MLA provides generous vacation and sick time, flexible work hours, a 403(b) retirement plan, and individual health and dental plans.
