Our client in the pharmaceutical space is looking for an
Art Director to join their in-house agency!
The Art Director (AD) provides design leadership and art direction for the in-house agency, ensuring all work meets the highest creative and strategic standards. The AD collaborates with the creative director (CD), creative peers, and account services teams to develop marketing and internal communications materials that exceed client expectations. This role requires an excellent design background, especially within regulated industries like pharmaceuticals, where precision, compliance, and attention to detail are paramount.
This will be a fully remote, ongoing opportunity with EST working hours.
Responsibilities:
Art Direction
- Lead the design and execution of marketing assets as outlined in creative/marketing briefs, ensuring all work aligns with client goals, brand guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide hands-on design support on high-priority (Tier 1) and secondary (Tier 2) projects, overseeing them from conception through completion, while also stepping in as an additional creative resource.
- Review secondary (Tier 2) and tertiary (Tier 3) work to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with design objectives, timelines, and compliance needs.
- Collaborate with the production team on the print process, including the setup of print files with appropriate specifications (CMYK, resolution, bleed, color profiles) and thorough proof reviews to ensure error-free output.
- Offer strategic design insights and justification for creative decisions, especially when responding to client feedback and change requests.
- Ensure that all digital files are prepared and optimized according to best practices for web, email, and digital banners, ensuring proper file formats, sizes, and compliance with accessibility guidelines (WCAG).
- Stay up-to-date on the latest digital design trends, particularly in email marketing, banner ads, and website development, and ensure that all assets are created with responsiveness and user experience in mind.
- Support the CD and broader creative team in developing innovative strategies and concepts that balance creativity with compliance, addressing both the client’s marketing goals and regulatory requirements.
Teamwork
- Foster a collaborative environment that enhances creative output and supports team growth.
- Mentor team members, promoting development and high-quality work.
- Work with project management to optimize team utilization and meet deadlines.
- Collaborate with HTML developers to ensure files are correctly set up and all assets are provided at the project kickoff to enable smooth development.
Client Service
- Participate in client and account team meetings alongside the CD to review briefs, establish project plans, and kick off initiatives.
- Take the lead on direct client interactions when the scope of a project dictates, providing a design-focused perspective on creative decisions.
- Ensure that all creative work complies with regulatory requirements and client expectations, particularly in the pharmaceutical space where accuracy and adherence to guidelines are critical.
Qualifications:
- Experience level: Experienced
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in design, advertising or related field.
- Minimum of eight years professional-level experience required; three as a senior graphic designer or art director.
- Portfolio required.
- Knowledge of design in regulated environments, including PRC and Veeva, is preferred.
- Familiarity with the pharmaceutical industry and the complexities of working within a regulated space is highly desirable.
- Agency experience is preferred.
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud, including setting up files for both print and digital output (e.g., color management, resolution settings, accessibility for digital assets).
- Understand design applications in traditional, digital and emerging channels
- Adapt well to changing priorities, deadlines and directions
- Understand that all projects require attention to detail so that work is on time, on budget and on strategy
- Ability to work autonomously without micro-direction and can be counted on for accuracy
- Excellent conceptual and problem-solving skills with an ability to communicate complex design decisions to both creative and non-creative stakeholders.
- Thorough knowledge of digital design best practices for email campaigns (e.g., mobile responsiveness, HTML email guidelines), digital banners (including animated and static formats), and websites (ensuring compliance with WCAG and SEO-friendly design).
