Position: Senior Project Manager
Location: Rocanville, Saskatchewan
Working Schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off (8-10 hour days)
Contract: 12-month term (with the possibility of extension)
Introduction
Brunel is actively seeking a Senior Project Manager with deep expertise in shaft engineering for a high-profile mining project in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. This role demands a highly technical professional skilled in the engineering and construction of mine shafts. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in underground mining, with a strong focus on managing the technical complexities of shaft design, construction, and commissioning.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end management of shaft engineering projects, ensuring alignment with key project milestones, budgets, and safety protocols.
- Oversee all technical aspects of shaft design, including ground control, lining, hoisting systems, and integration with broader mine infrastructure.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to refine design concepts and execute detailed project plans, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Drive project planning and scheduling, utilizing tools such as Primavera P6 to ensure project timelines are met.
- Manage budgets and cost control, providing regular financial forecasts and mitigating potential overruns.
- Interface with construction teams to oversee the technical execution of shaft sinking, including excavation methods, mechanical installations, and safety systems.
- Ensure seamless coordination between engineering, procurement, and construction teams, resolving technical issues and ensuring project continuity.
- Monitor and manage project risks, implementing mitigation strategies for geotechnical challenges, equipment issues, or construction delays.
- Ensure that all shaft-related construction activities adhere to rigorous safety and quality standards, promoting a strong safety culture on-site.
- Provide regular updates and detailed technical reports to senior management, identifying any areas of concern and recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Mentor junior engineers and project team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
Requirements
- 10–15 years of project management experience in the mining sector, with specific expertise in shaft engineering and construction.
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field; master’s degree or PMP certification is an asset.
- Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation or equivalent is preferred.
- Extensive experience with the design and construction of mine shafts, including excavation techniques, ground support, lining, and mechanical systems.
- Strong knowledge of underground mining, with experience in potash operations being highly advantageous.
- Proficiency in project management tools, including Primavera P6, MS Project, and cost management software such as SAP.
- Strong leadership skills, with proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams on large, complex projects.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to senior management.
- Valid Underground Supervisory Certificate issued by the Saskatchewan Mines Branch is a plus.
- Must provide a Drug and Alcohol clearance letter, valid GMSA certificate, and necessary PPE to work in an industrial environment.
