ABOUT THE ROLE
Multus is seeking someone passionate about applying data science and machine learning to help build more sustainable technologies and industries. We create novel feedstocks for biomanufacturing, to support industries like cultivated meat and cell therapy. We use data science and machine learning to solve optimisation problems in the development of feedstock formulations.
We need someone who can accelerate the development of our models and analytics. You’ll help define the technology we build, such as machine learning optimisation, computer vision, robotics and Next-Generation Sequencing. We’re a small engineering team, working side-by-side with biologists and bioprocess engineers to create tools that see immediate real-world application.

Key responsibilities:
Optimisation model development and integration:
- Bring new ideas for novel algorithmic approaches that could advance our media optimisation capability.
- Lead model development in our optimisation system to handle more inputs, solve for multiple objectives and increase the overall efficiency of our development process.
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists to integrate new models into our proprietary laboratory automation system.
Other data science development:
- Develop other machine learning and analytics tools including computer vision models for cell morphology evaluation and bioinformatics tools for -omic datasets.
Data analytics:
- Work alongside cell biologists to explain how our optimisation system works and curate lab data to drive optimisation efficiency.
Ideally, your experience will include at least some the following :
- A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Physics, or a related field.
- Expertise in probabilistic modeling (e.g., Gaussian processes, Bayesian optimization) and underlying mathematical and statistical principles, including linear algebra, calculus, and probability.
- Hands-on experience with both traditional machine learning methods (e.g., tree-based models and SVM) and neural networks.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as JAX, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
- Proficiency in data manipulation, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools like Streamlit, Dash, or Shiny.
