About the Role

The Project Manager, Research is a pivotal role for a detail-oriented, strategic thinker who is committed to supporting the research initiatives of the First Nations Technology Council. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Research and Engagement, the Project Manager, Research will plan project timelines, oversee and manage research contracts, track budgets, manage project risks and solve problems. The Manager will also manage external partnerships such as vendors and committees. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of project management principles and the ability to translate research concepts into actionable steps from concept to delivery. The successful candidate will also support communication asset development and knowledge translation, ensuring clear communication of research project outcomes and processes.

Primary Responsibilities

Plan, execute, and monitor projects to ensure they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
Develop detailed project plans, assign resources, set timelines, and track progress, adjusting as necessary to meet project objectives.
Identify, manage, and mitigate risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle.
Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and forecast potential overruns or savings.
Oversee and coordinate with cross-functional teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment with project goals.
Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including status reports, project plans, and meeting agendas.
Facilitate regular project meetings, including status updates, and ensure that action items are tracked and completed.
Ensure communication and engagement throughout the project, providing regular updates and addressing any concerns.
Lead the implementation of best practices in project management, continuously improving processes to enhance project delivery.
Support the creation of impact and performance reports for the senior management and leadership team.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including creating comprehensive project documentation and presenting findings effectively.
Strong problem-solving abilities.
Proficient at managing contractors, staff, projects, and budgets with a desire to continue developing leadership abilities.
Excellent relationship-building abilities with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Understanding of First Nations structures, communities, and organizations, and ability to communicate in a culturally competent and respectful manner.

Requirements

A university degree or accredited college diploma in a relevant field (such as project management or business administration), or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
At least three years of experience in a project management role.
Proven ability to effectively communicate and engage with Indigenous communities and organizations.
Experience managing research projects from concept through delivery, with a strong understanding of project management best practices, including managing contracts, budgets, and timelines.
Skilled in facilitating online meetings, as well as managing document and data workflows efficiently.
Willingness to travel within the province of British Columbia as needed.

Supervision

This position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Research and Engagement.

Salary Range

65,000 - 75,000
