The Indiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (INAAP) is seeking a Grant Writing Consultant for its Reach Out and Read Indiana Program.

About Reach Out and Read

For almost three decades, pediatricians and other pediatric primary care practitioners across the United States have been partnering with Reach Out and Read (ROR) to advance the healthy development of the children (birth aged through five years old) who visit their offices. The program’s simple model of “prescribing books” brings more than 4.7 million children in contact with rich opportunities to learn and grow each year. By partnering with doctors’ offices, Reach Out and Read is able to connect with children and families early to stimulate brain development and foster the foundations needed for long-term success.

Reach Out and Read Indiana currently serves 175,000 children throughout the state, and makes a beneficial impact on the lives of Hoosier families through 300,000 well-child visits each year across the 120 ROR clinics in Indiana.

Position Summary

Reach Out and Read Indiana is seeking an experienced Grant Writing Consultant to research and vet potential funding opportunities, prepare compelling proposals, and help manage awarded grants. The ideal candidate has a strong record of finding and securing grants, as well as collaborating with staff on project budgets and financial reporting.

This position focuses on grant research, planning, and writing, requiring attention to detail, budgeting skills, and strong foundation relations. The Consultant will collaborate with clients to develop and execute grant strategies, leveraging experience in securing funding from government and private foundations.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing & Management (75%)

· Write, edit, review, and submit grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and other funding sources.

· Conduct in-depth research on potential grant opportunities using search engines and subscription services.

· Collaborate with ROR Leadership to create organized and achievable grant plans that align with organizational goals.

· Identify new grant opportunities and share relevant prospects with ROR Leadership.

· Manage the full lifecycle of grant applications, ensuring timely submission and compliance with requirements.

· Work with program staff to develop detailed project budgets that meet funder expectations.

· Maintain accurate and organized records of all grant applications, submissions, and communications.

· Track and monitor deadlines for grant applications, reporting, and renewals.

· Assist in preparing financial reports for grant-funded projects.

· Support overall fundraising efforts by aligning grant applications with organizational goals.

· Manage contracts and agreements related to awarded grants, ensuring compliance with all terms and conditions.

Subject Matter Resource (25%)

· Stay current on trends and best practices in fundraising, development, and grant management.

· Serve as a resource for ROR Leadership, providing expert guidance and strategies to address grant-related challenges.

· Maintain a comprehensive understanding of major funding sources in Indiana, including state and local foundations, corporate funders, and government agencies.

· Offer insights and recommendations to ROR Leadership on maximizing grant opportunities and fundraising efforts.

Qualifications and Experience

3+ years of related experience
Bachelor’s degree
Excellent writing, editing and communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize
Positive, service-minded attitude; ready to work with passion and enthusiasm
Flexible, team player attitude; a collaborator, learner, and multi-tasker

Position Specifications

The position is designated for up to 10-12 hours/week, but could flex based on grant deadlines.
This opportunity would be ideal for an experienced professional who is looking to work part-time or supplement their existing work.
This position is fully remote.
