Class Summary

Internship Goal

To assist Council Members and the Council’s Budget Director in understanding the effectiveness of City programs and City-funded programs by analyzing large datasets through various performance metrics.

Duration of Internship and Schedule: This internship is expected to last 10-15 weeks (budget dependent). The number of hours worked each week is flexible, but will be capped at 29 hours per week.

Internship Deliverables

The intern will work with all Council Members and the Council’s Budget Director to perform data gathering and analysis from internal software platforms and publicly available datasets to build spreadsheets, macros, and other analytical tools.
The intern will be asked to gather and analyze data and information across multiple topic areas with a particular emphasis on the City’s historical and current budget.
The intern will be asked to analyze the datasets that they have either generated or gathered using various performance metrics to assist Council Members in determining the overall effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of programs.
The intern will be required to present the data they collect visually by creating graphics or other visual representations to display data for precise, effective, quick analysis.

As a representative of the City of Spokane, the Intern is subject to the City’s Code of Ethics set forth in Chapter 1.04A of the Spokane Municipal Code.
