About The Role
Under the supervision of the Director of Project Management, the Project Portfolio Manager is responsible for overseeing the management and governance of the KHS project portfolio. They help to align projects with strategic objectives, optimizing resource allocation, and ensuring the successful execution of projects and their intended benefits. This role involves working closely with the project management office (PMO) and stakeholders at all levels to prioritize, monitor, and report on project performance, while also providing strategic guidance and recommendations to senior management. Additionally, the Project Portfolio Manager manages, develops and mentors assigned PMO staff. They play a key part in driving successful project execution and delivering value to the organization.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities - Portfolio Management Strategy:
- Develop and implement a portfolio management strategy aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Define criteria for project selection, prioritization, and resource allocation.
- Establish and maintain portfolio management processes, methodologies, and tools.
- Lead and manage the Portfolio Analysts, and other roles as necessary, to support project delivery and PMO functions effectively.
- Project Prioritization and Selection:
- Evaluate and assess potential projects based on strategic alignment, feasibility, risk, and return on investment.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to determine project priorities and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Conduct regular portfolio reviews to make informed decisions on project initiation, continuation, or termination.
- Resource Allocation and Capacity Planning:
- Optimize resource allocation across projects to maximize productivity and ensure efficient utilization.
- Monitor resource availability, capacity, and skill sets to address potential bottlenecks or conflicts.
- Work with project managers and functional managers to resolve resource allocation challenges.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the portfolio, including project success criteria and milestones.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Prepare and present regular portfolio performance reports to stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
- Governance and Compliance:
- Establish governance frameworks to ensure compliance with organizational policies, standards, and regulations.
- Conduct portfolio reviews and audits to assess project performance, adherence to processes, and compliance requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project delivery and portfolio management practices.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Collaborate with senior management, executives, project sponsors, and other stakeholders to gain support for the portfolio management process.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination among stakeholders to align expectations and resolve conflicts.
- Engage with project managers and teams to provide guidance, support, and coaching on portfolio management best practices.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
Employment Standards:
- Proven experience in project portfolio management, ideally in a complex organizational setting.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and best practices.

- Agile Scrum Methodology
Education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree Required, from an accredited institution or equivalent.
- Project Management Experience – 8 years.
- Portfolio Management Experience – 2 years.
Certifications:
- Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) or Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) required.
