Description
A National Healthcare Organization is seeking a a highly detail-oriented and organized Medical Records Specialist with considerable experience in the release of information in a hospital setting. The Medical Records Specialist will be responsible for managing and maintaining all patients' records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
Responsibilities: Manage and maintain patients' medical records efficiently. Process requests for information from patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies, legal entities, and other authorized parties in a timely and accurate manner following HIPAA guidelines. Verify the authorization and validity of all release of information requests before processing them. Track the status of each request, following up as necessary to ensure timely responses. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, assisting in determining and meeting the information needs of internal and external customers. Assist in the implementation of electronic medical records, ensuring the successful transition from paper files when necessary. Ensure patient health information is kept and disposed of in compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations. Communicate with patients regarding disclosures of their healthcare information. Conduct periodic audits on medical records. Remain current in the medical records field through continuing education and detail oriented growth.
Requirements
Experience in the release of information in a hospital setting is essential. Familiarity with medical, legal and insurance procedures. Comprehensive understanding of state and federal laws regarding medical information and confidentiality, such as HIPAA. Proficient in the use of EMR/EHR systems. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
