ROLE OVERVIEW
In this role, your ability to identify, source, and rapidly transform content into compelling, newsworthy posts is at the heart of the job.
The ideal candidate will be part Journalist, Mobile Video Editor/Clipper, Headline Copywriter with a Community Liaison with a passion staying ahead of trends and using their expert skills in mobile video editing to turn raw, timely information into viral social media moments.
Without mastering these skills, it will be impossible to meet the demands of this fast-paced, dynamic role.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
News and Content Sourcing:
- STAY ON TOP OF BREAKING NEWS: Continuously monitor news outlets, social platforms, and emerging trends across the web. You will act as the brand’s pulse, ensuring that no significant event, cultural moment, or trend passes unnoticed.
- Niche Categories Include: Creatorprenuers, Tech Titans, Artists Moguls, Cryptoprenuers,
- SOURCE FROM DIVERSE CHANNELS: Use a variety of sources, from X (formally Twitter), TikTok, and Instagram to find trending topics. Additionally real-time news outlets like Apple News, Google News, Yahoo News, or Bloomberg etc. to gather the most up-to-date and engaging content for our niche categories.
- ACT FAST: It’s not enough to find content; you’ll need to source and act on it immediately. Speed is critical—this role demands you are always ready to clip, edit, and post at a moment’s notice. You need to deliver content while it’s still relevant to the conversation [Think of VICE, TMZ or Shade Room].
Content Clipping and Video Creation:
- CLIP VIDEOS EFFICIENTLY: The ability to quickly find sourced content, screen capture and clip the most compelling parts of a news topic to create snappy, digestible pieces is crucial. This will involve using mobile-friendly video editing software like Canva, Videoleap, and/or Adobe to stitch together short clips that tell a story and deliver a headline with a punch.
- HIGHLIGHT THE STORY: You’ll turn video clips into engaging stories that feel urgent and timely. Whether it’s a celebrity moment, influencer turned business mogul, a viral trend, or breaking news, you’ll craft clips that invite users to engage, comment, and share.
- CREATE NEWSWORTHY POSTS: Your posts should not only engage but also inform and captivate the audience. Each video or post you create should have a news angle that makes it a shareable, MUST SEE piece of content. This includes adding dynamic text overlays, emojis, headlines, or commentary that align with trending conversations.
Mastery of Video Editing Tools:
- LEVERAGE MOBILE VIDEO EDITING TOOLS: Proficiency in Canva, Videoleap, and other quick-edit tools is essential. You must be able to create, edit, and finalize video content directly from your phone, ensuring that your workflow is fast and flexible.
- OPTIMIZE FOR SOCIAL PLATFORMS: Every platform has a different vibe and audience. You’ll need to edit and resize content for different platforms like TikTok, Instagram Stories, and Reels, ensuring that each post is optimized for engagement on that specific platform.
Timeliness and Engagement:
- ACT ON TRENDS IN REAL-TIME: Timing is everything in social media, especially when it comes to newsworthy content. The ability to turn around relevant, polished content within minutes of a trend breaking is a key differentiator.
- KEEP YOUR FINGER ON THE PULSE: You will act as the brand’s ear to the ground, actively listening for stories and conversations that could turn into our next viral post.
- ENGAGE WITH NEWS MOMENTS: Whether it’s reacting to a viral event or capitalizing on a trending hashtag, you’ll need to quickly create posts that seamlessly insert the brand into these conversations, increasing reach and engagement.
Strategic News Integration:
- USE NEWS TO FUEL BRAND RELEVANCE: The Social Media Coordinator should think of news as a tool to keep the brand relevant. You’re not just sharing content; you’re strategically curating and creating posts that align with the larger cultural narrative, helping the brand to be seen as timely and in touch.
- ALIGN CONTENT WITH THE BRAND’S MISSION: Every piece of sourced content or newsworthy clip must not only be relevant but also on-brand. The ability to combine the brand’s message with trending topics is key in driving meaningful, impactful engagement.
Collaboration and Feedback Loop:
- WORK WITH STAKEHOLDERS: Expect to pitch ideas based on trending news stories or viral content. You’ll need to closely collaborate with the CreativeOPTIC team, ensuring that the newsworthy posts you produce are in line with larger campaigns.
- GATHER AND ANALYZE FEEDBACK: Once content is live, analyze how it’s performing in real time. Does it resonate with the audience? Are people sharing it? Based on these insights, refine future content and editing strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven Experience in Content Sourcing:
- 2+ years of experience in social media management, with a focus on sourcing and curating timely content.
- A strong understanding of how to monitor and interpret trends across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and emerging social media platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to identify viral moments, trending topics, and cultural conversations relevant to the brand’s target audience.
Expertise in Mobile Video Editing:
- Proficiency in mobile video editing tools such as Canva, Videoleap, and Adobe, with a track record of quickly turning raw footage into polished, engaging social media content.
- Experience in editing multi-clip videos, using transitions, text overlays, and dynamic editing techniques to create high-impact visuals.
- Ability to edit directly from a mobile device and adapt content to various social media platforms, ensuring optimal performance for each format.
Strong News and Trend Awareness:
- Up-to-the-minute awareness of trends in pop culture, industry news, and social media. Candidates must demonstrate a passion for staying plugged into the latest conversations and spotting opportunities for brand engagement.
- Experience working in fast-paced, trend-driven environments where timeliness is crucial to content success.
Social Media Management Skills:
- Proven ability to manage social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter, with a focus on creating engaging, newsworthy posts that align with current trends.
- Experience in managing a social media posting schedule, community engagement, and using analytics tools to drive content strategy.
- Understanding of platform-specific nuances, including video length, resolutions, and audience preferences on each platform.
Speed and Agility in Content Creation:
- Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines, quickly turning sourced content into engaging posts with minimal turnaround time.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations, multitasking between sourcing, clipping, and publishing content during high-traffic moments.
- Adaptability and quick decision-making in creating timely responses to emerging trends and breaking news.
Creative and Strategic Mindset:
- A creative thinker with the ability to develop innovative ideas for turning news moments into viral posts.
- Experience aligning social media content with broader marketing strategies and brand identity.
- Ability to craft storytelling narratives within short-form content that align with the brand’s tone and mission while keeping the content timely and news-focused.
Strong Communication and Collaboration Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce compelling captions, headlines, and commentary to accompany video content.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including content creators, designers, and marketing leads, to ensure cohesive, on-brand content.
- Experience working in a team setting, receiving feedback, and iterating on content based on performance insights and team discussions.
Proven Track Record of Social Media Growth:
- Experience driving growth across multiple platforms through viral, newsworthy content.
- Ability to use social media analytics to measure engagement, optimize content, and refine strategies to enhance performance.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Familiarity with social media advertising strategies and experience using paid promotions to amplify content.
- Basic knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator) for creating additional visual assets when needed.
