Allegheny Science & Technology (AST) is seeking a Technical Writer to support support our Business Development / Proposal Team. This position is 100% remote, supporting standard EST business hours. It is preferred that candidates be local to the Washington D.C. metro area.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Write and edit engaging proposals that showcase what we have done for past clients and how it can be replicated to help potential clients succeed with innovative and efficient solutions.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, technical teams and program managers to ensure accuracy and relevance of content including visual and multi-media elements incorporation into the written content.
- Provide fresh and innovative ideas for content creation and ways to enhance technical and management proposal sections.
- Develop a deep understanding of our target audience and create content that resonates with them.
- Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate them into the content strategy.
- Create big picture stories that inform and resonate with diverse audiences.
- Proofread and edit all written content to ensure quality and consistency.
- Create quick, simple graphics to convey complex ideas without the need for a graphic designer.
- Incorporate comments gathered from storyboard reviews, pink teams, red teams, and gold teams to deliver compelling and compliant content under tight deadlines.
- Translate difficult technical concepts into scoreable proposal content.
- Conduct periodic reviews to identify areas of improvement and make necessary changes to proposal writing strategies and future content creation.
- Meet strict deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Qualifications:
- BA or BS in English, Journalism, Communications, Political Science, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in journalism, federal proposal writing, grant writing, or technical writing.
- Broad depth and understanding of Government solicitations and ability to decompose requirements and tailor information to score significant strengths.
- Must be able to successfully write sections such as Management Approach, Transition Approach, Resumes, Past Performance, Corporate Experience, Risk Management Plans, Quality Control Plans, Executive Summaries, Cost/Price Narrative, Introductions, etc. with input from relevant stakeholders.
- Experience interviewing technical subject matter experts to translate technical requirements and approach into compelling, persuasive and easily digestible content.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills with ability to assess and digest vast amounts of information to develop tailored proposal content under tight deadlines.
- Ability to articulate the "How" and the "Why" from the "What".
- Proficient in complex technical proposal writing.
- Expert in MS Word and PowerPoint, including the ability to create and edit styles, develop templates, etc.
- Understanding of proposal management and writing best practices (e.g., APMP / Shipley methodologies).
Other Qualifications:
- US Citizenship is required.
- Must be able to travel as needed (5-10% travel anticipated).
Multiple factors contribute to determining the final pay for a position. These include, but are not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and competencies that align with the specific role, geographic location, educational background, and contract provisions related to labor categories specific to the position. We are committed to offering a competitive compensation package that reflects the value and expertise that each candidate brings to our team.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is $70,000 - $85,000.
