Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred.
- 2-4 years of detailed administrative work experience is required.
- Understanding of industry operations, ILWU hiring/dispatching practices, retirement programs and benefits and how these affect claims administration processes preferred.
- Computer skills with a high degree of proficiency.
- You must be able to communicate in a professional and proper manner with co-workers, management, clients, insureds, contractors and various other parties involved in the insurance claim process.
- Ability to listen, learn, take direction, make changes and work alone or in a group environment.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to computer screens.
- Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
The
Claims Assistant is responsible for daily administrative duties to include assisting with data entry into the data management system and claims management.
- Responsible for assisting in daily administration of the incoming incident reports; this includes creating the actual claim in the Origami risk software system.
- Create corresponding claim folders and reports in the network files.
- Work with AP to create new vendors and ensure payment info is correct.
- Manage invoice billing issues and questions.
- Process all invoices into Origami risk software system for payment and ensure check copies are maintained properly.
- General administrative duties to include, scanning and saving all incoming mail and timely notice to the respective adjustor.
- Timely distribution of all mail to appropriate adjusters.
- Close out files in system when final resolution has been reached.
- Maintain vendor list for all California locations and communicate with each terminal weekly.
- Other duties as assigned to assists with safety tasks and administrative projects as needed.
