Position Overview:
Position Title: Sr. UX Designer
Location Information: Kansas City or Chicago
Duration: 12+ month contract to hire
Compensation: 48/hr
Job Summary:
On this team we create digital products that fit into an ecosystem of experiences, yet we’re nimble in what’s made so the designer needs to understand the context of other work while creating viable solutions for the tasks at hand. While we are cross-functional in nature, our work must lead the heavy lifting for both discovering and defining requirements, and then be nimble enough to flex the interface toward a horizon—now, near, far, etc.—for implementing something now, and saving the test for the backlog.
The ideal designer understands that “thinking is making, and making is thinking,” so their work is immediately useful wile working-in-progress, and the momentum of what they make helps the project feel continually advancing.
TALENTS & DELIVERABLES
- Framing and forming – able to own the client relationship and guide the momentum of the work from beginning to end with support from team leadership
- Concept communication – incrementally drive solutions with frequent reviews that iterate what’s possible for the project
- Finding and framing requirements – the designs are a vehicle for discovering what the product can/can’t do, alongside reflecting in tight turn-arounds what’s been decided upon and demonstrable in follow up reviews
- Asset production – as the concept reached maturity, the experience needs to be distilled into developable components and must meet edge cases, so there are few surprises with the interface when in development
- Implementation guidance – working with a range of developer capabilities across different development teams (inside and outside of VML), further materials are needed to help explain and annotate what needs to be implemented
- Creative compliance – working closely with developers, the designer needs to have a strong but gentle voice when ensuring excellence; knowing how to both guide developers and where to make concessions to keep project momentum
